People get put in jail frequently for postal fraud (snail mail) but 
if you get on a list or two your mailbox will fill up with illegal
chain letters and fraudulent schemes.

Maybe prosecution slows them down a little, but I kind of doubt it.

Does your ISP offer spam filters? I wonder if they do any good.
