That is in fact broken, because it sorts just like 'ls *':

  % ls *.pkg.tar.gz
  foo-1.2.3.1-1.pkg.tar.gz  foo-1.2.3-1.pkg.tar.gz
  % find . -name \*.pkg.tar.gz|sort
  ./foo-1.2.3.1-1.pkg.tar.gz
  ./foo-1.2.3-1.pkg.tar.gz
