successfully installed it on the Pi 5[2].
You don't necessarily have to go for a Debian base if you don't want to,
I completely understand that.

I started out using Redhat-5.0 in the 1990's and then fedora. I haven't
used fedora for 15-20 years as I transitioned to my own custom OS (linux
based with rpm package manager, since before 2000) first on AMD64 and
the RPI platform. I use rpi's exclusively now. I wanted to get out from
maintaining a custom OS so I am looking for a distro to use.
I'll have a look at fedora.
