Hi, folks. I'm new here, so please go easy on me.
AUR account registration is currently closed, so I can't submit my tool
myself. I'm looking for someone to create the package on my behalf.
textifyopendocument solves a particular problem: previewing large
OpenDocument files in text-based file managers, such as ranger. It
replaces odt2txt, whose design makes it really slow on even modestly-
sized files. I started from odt2txt's author's hand-wavy comment that
his regex-based solution wasn't great and likely performed horribly. It
was fine, but it's slow! I assumed that rebuilding it in Rust and
switching to a single-pass XML parsing strategy would help. It did.
The spreadsheet that precipitated this whole experiment needed tens of
minutes for odt2txt to process it, but textifyopendocument handles it in
about 200 ms.
I also thought it helpful to add a "stop after N characters" feature,
since that fits the common use case of previewing the file contents in a
TUI.
Everything needed to package it is ready to use, as far as my Novice
eyes can tell:
