I think an even more reasonable default would be to do nothing at all.
I.e., leave it unset. The same goes for keymap ("us" is the standard
anyway).
In principle using the standard rc.conf file should just work (though
you would then get an unset hostname and "C" as your locale, so maybe
we want to tweak it a bit).
