i'm against "outsourcing" one language and not another... but on
the other
hand, you cannot assume that there exist wikis for every
language... and
also they may also have other wiki engines running and so on. the
state
now - one wiki installation containing more languages, crosslinked in
language/article - keeps the infos together while extending itself
towards other languages (everybody can with a little knowledge of
mediawiki translate every page to another language and add a i18n
box to
the page - voilà: you have the contents and another language). of
course,
we will need to keep in synch translations. if you find a page
extended
in a language and a sister-page is missing this text that is newer,
feel
free to copy the new text from the one language it exists to the
one it
does not exist and if you cannoot/willnot/have-not-time-to
translate it
right now, simply add the {{translateme}} tag to it and other
people will
synch it.
the wiki on archlinuxfr is helpful for colaboration: it would be
really
great that if you have some articles that are missing in the archwiki,
that you copy them to it. if you like, we can also think about a
crosslinking of this articles then. the way wikis are crosslinked
usually. have a look at the
http://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/Firefox_Tips_and_Tweaks
at the bottom the reference to wikipedia for an example.
what do you think?
I'm ok with is this is idea. I think that most of articles in english
should have their counterpart in french. A ToDo page would be build
to have all articles not already translated.
if you like the idea, please provide me a url to a small logo of the
archlinuxfr wiki so that i can create such a box. then we can use the
same syntax to crosslink pages beween french articles in archwiki
and the
analogous pages in archlinuxfrwiki.
You will have the logo tomorrow ;)
