For me the difference is that hwdetect is the only one daemon who have an
extra option: MOD_BLACKLIST. No one other daemon have this. I like this
option very much because it is easier to find than /etc/hotplug/blacklist.-)

Sure if it comes seperatly: yes ... but if it comes as it is inside of the 
initscripts package than the comments in rc.conf are enough for the moment.
Later a manpage or better a hint about using it in the installation manual
would be very nice.

I can understand that you have arguments against the way to integrate hwdetect
but for me as an normal user it is like the whole rc.conf: simple but  
efficient.
