No, we don't plan to update packages ever. All sarcasm aside, they're in the works. Upgrading python and ruby, being that they are interpreted languages, can break many many things.... there are changes that needs to be made to anything using the interpreters as well (i.e. vim segfaults when built against python 2.5) and many need to be patched... As with everything recently, it is a big change. The options are: a) Be patient.
