I have that on my desktop, too. The kernel doesn't successfully initialize ACPI anymore and thus can't send a shutdown command. At first this happened occasionally, now it happens every time. In my case, it is related to my motherboard being broken. To see if that is the case, look in dmesg for ACPI messages.
