-----BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE----- Hash: SHA1 Hello. I am new to the list, but have been lirking on IRC for awhile (tsp). For those who don't know, I am blind, and use a screen reader to access my computer. To that end, I want to help with accessibility in Arch, since it's my favorite distribution simply because it doesn't get in the way and has a sane package manager. I've made PKGBUILDs for speech-dispatcher and speechd-up, the ladder for speakup support of software speech. Speakup currently doesn't patch into 2.6.23.1, and kernel versions go forward rapidly, but speech-dispatcher could be useful. I'm glad to see that orca is already included, along with brltty (needs updating). I'll try to get orca to work, and if anyone's interested, report my findings and possible fixes to make it smoother. I believe that we need a wiki page that contains, among other things:
1. What happens when you boot the live cd - Do you need to press anything special to get access to a boot prompt, what arguments can you enter, etc - I hear that there is an ssh server inside the livecd, but is there a way to configure the network parameters from the boot prompt and start it? ETC. 2. Instructions for getting things such as brltty and Gnome/orca going. I suspect that users will want to recompile gnome-speech with espeak support to get one of the more responsive speech synths out there. Is anyone interested in helping me make Arch more accessible? - - Tyler, http://allinaccess.com -----BEGIN PGP SIGNATURE----- Version: GnuPG v1.4.7 (SunOS) iD8DBQFHJRQYTsjaYASMWKQRAlj+AKCFqdfKjbSvYyKhCh+Gt1KmVB8X9wCgk1w6 cdBcV6QyBIxmvSIfqvDaGv8= =6Bq/ -----END PGP SIGNATURE----- _______________________________________________ arch mailing list [email protected] http://archlinux.org/mailman/listinfo/arch
