Hey Joel, Yes, you will be able to go straight to 4.4.2 from v3.
However, during the lead up to the 4.4.2 release I found some deficiencies with v3 exports which hinder migration efforts (as you found, not even every v3 release allows the export of resources!). So, the outcome is that I will be working on putting together a very simple patch that v3 users can download and place inside their v3 app to enable the proper exports. I think the day to work on that has come. I'll get back in touch with you soon.
