Hey Phil,

Brilliant, of course, thanks. I've imported the FISH Events Thesaurus (very
easy) and made it into a Collection; see screenshot. I then added this concept
to the node Activity type and was able to access this Events Thesaurus when
creating a new Activity record in the node Activity; see screenshot.

Perfect. Thanks Phil for this - that's sorted. I''ve really started to
understand Arches through your help this week, cheers. Have a great weekend,

 Jude.

Hi Jude,
Right. So as I mentioned you can’t have a collection without a thesaurus even
if that thesaurus is just a list for a dropdown.

For example say you wanted a dropdown called ‘Threat Level’ and you wanted Low,
Medium, High as your terms.

  1. Select ‘Add Thesauri’ from the Tools dropdown
  2. Add name in the Concept Scheme Name and Save Changes

  1. Your new scheme will appear at the bottom of the thesauri list and will
open the main page of the schema

  1. On the main page you can see a blue ‘Manage v’ button.
  2. Click this to open the manage concepts menu.
  3. Select ‘Add Top Concept’
  4. Enter the term you want to add – ‘High’ and any scopenote. Save Changes

  1. You will now see the term in the hierarchy.

  1. Repeat step 7 for all the terms in the list.
  2. Once you’ve added all your terms. Select ‘Make Collection’ from the
‘Manage v’ dropdown
  3. If the operation was successful you’ll see this (a blue header with
Success in the top left

  1. Your collection will now appear in the Collections List (in alphabetical
order) and can now be added to your resource model and used for selection in
your cards.
N.B if you need to add more concepts, once you’ve made your collection, then
you will need to add them as concepts in the thesaurus and then go into the
collection and add them using the ‘Add dropdown entry’. For example if you
wanted to add ‘No Threat’ this is how you’d do it.

I’m attaching the events thesaurus.
Save it to your PC,
Import it (it should go in no problem),
Open it on the main page (see below), click ‘Manage v’ Select ‘Make Collection’

Thanks Phil (I'm quite a Beatles fan so I never mind that song reference to my
name!),

Okay, perhaps the attached screenshots will unpick this one. So, I created (so
I thought) a Concept to add my handful of dropdown terms to, called 'Activity
Type'. But this only appears in Collections, not Thesauri (as it's not a
thesaurus as such, just a dropdown of less than 10 terms).

Do I then add terms to this Concept in Collections? When I click 'Add dropdown
entry' I get the attached error.

Event Type thesaurus - could be useful, thanks.

Cheers, Jude.

Okay, do you have a thesaurus called activity type? If so then you just need to
go into that thesaurus and click ‘Make Collection’ (see image). This will
automatically make the collection for you and will give it the same name as the
thesaurus.

If you don’t have a thesaurus then you’ll need to create one or select concepts
from ones which you have that exist, ie. You can’t add a concept to a
collection until the concept exists.

If you’re selecting from a thesaurus that already exists then simply click on
the ‘Add Dropdown entry’ (see image) and select the concepts you want to add.

You’ll then need to go to the relevant node in your resource model, select
datatype concept and then choose the relevant collection.

If you want a quick chat about this just give me a bell on the mobile below or,
better still send me a zoom and we can talk through it.

If it helps I can also supply the Event Type thesaurus in rdf so you can import
that straight in.

Phil

Hello all - simple one this, but I can't seem to figure it from the Arches user
doc.

How do you create a simple dropdown in the RDM?

All I want to do at this stage is create a dropdown of terms for the node
Activity Type (in my Activity Resource Model), e.g. excavation; fieldwork;
survey; etc.

Attached is where I've got to, I can create the Collection but can't see how to
add the dropdown terms.

I simple one I guess.

Thanks all,

Jude
