The ISU campus recently changed to Google Apps, i.e., Google Mail, for all
mail services. When we try to configure Ariel's (3.4 at the time and 4.1
now) Options, Mail with smpt.gmail.com and our assigned smtp port, Ariel's
SMTP session fails. The log shows:

test Control file transmission begun
test Control file transmission confirmed
test Document transmission begun
test Document transmission confirmed
test Notification transmission begun
Trace: Added e-mail text of type text/plain encoded in 7bit using 1373 bytes
SMTP session begun
Must issue a STARTTLS command first
SMTP session failed

I am assuming part of the problem (maybe all??) is because Google smtp is
secure and Ariel does not support TLS. Has anyone found a way around this
problem? I just can't believe we are the only Goggle Mail campus that is
using Ariel.  Please help.
