Running Ariel on 32 or 64bit is pretty much the same. The concerns over which platform more relate to scanner drivers. Before you make the move be sure your scanner(s) have the appropriate 32bit driver for Windows 7 32bit or 64bit driver for Win 7 64bit. Ariel itself does not care which flavor you are migrating to. The message you are getting on compatabiity is due to the MSDE SQL Server version bundled with Windows XP is no longer supported under Windows 7 (either version). I think people are having success with the migration as the compatibility level for SQL Server 2008 for this Ariel database is getting purposefully or accidentally set to SQL Server 2008 (80).
