Leslie,

GWL has been able to get Gmail and Ariel to play nice.

It took a lot of testing various permutations to get it to work for
us, but I remember specifically that the I.T. department had to set
the account password to ...empty? ...verify at point of something?
Whatever it was, it was done via the local SMTP relay. Although I'm
fuzzy on the relay side of things, I can give you our specific Ariel
settings. Whether or not the email address was fully qualified was
important.

In Ariel's settings, on the Mail tab:

Enable outgoing mail.
SMTP = 25
outgoing mail server = your mail server (we used the IP address)
SMTP account name = just the mail name (not the fully qualified email address)
password = your password

Enable incoming mail.
type = IMAP
Port = 993
incoming mail server = your incoming mail server (we used the IP address)
account name = your fully qualified email address (wha...@whatev.edu)
password = your password
email return address = your fully qualified email address

Ping me off-list if you'd like me to facilitate getting your I.T.
folks in touch with our I.T. folks.

Jen.
