I’m not saying anyone is using anything other than ethernet now. I am saying 
that (in case you haven’t noticed) network technologies change over time and I 
don’t think an IX that wants to use a new technology should have to wait for 
ARIN policy to catch up in order to do so.

I’m almost fine with that. If you want to go that way, I’d propose “…connected 
to a physical fabric infrastructure to be used for the purpose of…”.

That would still eliminate your VirtualIX’s, and yet be technology agnostic.
