Were you able to get this working? Just for my own education, I was able to get gpio uart to work under linux.config.txt add
dtoverlay=uart0-pi5,ctsrts dtparam=uart0_console cmdline.txt add console=ttyAMA0,115200 cmdline.txt is absent on the install78.img though. --
