I second Mr. Olson's comments. (Hm. Apparently I'm responsive today.) For anyone personally curious about why Miss Rand isn't a 'Hobbes-ian', I suggest his Leviathan. In ThomasHobbes' world, it doesn't matter who the leaders in government are, it doesn't matter what freedoms the government may or may not give you the illusion of having except for the possibility of psychological content; it only matters that you give up your claim to force (and any other right) so that the governing power can EnsureCivilization. Even a corrupt crazy dictator is infinitely better than a democracy, in his opinion. The purpose of the book is essentially to prove that a dictatorship is eternally preferable to any other type of society, because it is the only one in which mankind may even try to exist and keep a shell of vigil against the animal dog-eat-dog StateOfNature.
