As an aside, in Holland, any fat you spread on your bread is called "butter" 
nowadays. Even when not a single cow contributed to its production. You need 
to ask for "real butter" if you don't want margarine (wich usually means 
Becel in Holland, a stuff I absolutely loathe). Strange how the meaning of a 
word can change.
As to color: Margarine is usually yellow or white here, butter is usually 
white, except during summer, when the cows get to eat some real grass, and 
the "real" butter turns yellow.

As to silly regulations. In the EU even the bendyness of Bananas is 
regulated...
