I sometimes wonder how many MDs have been able to bridge the north/south divide in popular music in India? None comes to my mind except ARR. Minority of southerners have listened to Hindi film music for years though without understanding the lyrics. However, only with ARR, northerners started to listen to his tamil/telugu creations without understanding a word of the lyrics. This itself proves beyond a shadow of doubt the unsurpassed creativity of ARR. Just look at his range: carnatic based, hindustani raga based, western pop, fusion, and to top it all his own singing prowess. In addition, he has given music for Indian as well as international projects.
