What I heard was ..........Our BOSS used to work Raj - Koti duo. Where he used to play keyboard. So probably he wud have done few BGM's for telugu....
Few years back I saw a photo of young Rahman with Chiranjeevi on the celebration of Chiru 100th movie. (Movie: Trinethrudu or Rudranethrudu....for which music was a big hit in AP ...and Music Dir's were Raj Koti duo)

Actually Rahman was first signed for the movie... Thiruda Thiruda...
and not Roja...
Late Mr. Mahesh (Nammavar music composer and person who scored BGM for
Abhay by kamal) was first signed for Roja... then later on things
changed and Rahman did roja... these are facts which not much of us
are aware of...
