After a stint with Andrew Lloyd Webber, AR Rahman’s discovery Karen David is
set to make her
debut in India

She is more than happy to acknowledge herself as AR Rahman’s discovery in the
world of music.
“Rahman actually found me,” she gushes speaking of her first video with him for
Jagmohan
Mundhra’s yet to be released ‘Provoked’.

26-year-old musician-actor Karen David who has legendary names like Benny
Andersson, Andrew
Lloyd Webber and Steven Seagal to her work credit, will now be seen in India
for the first time
through this independent music video.

“I was working with the ‘Provoked’ star cast when I suddenly landed at Rahman’s
studio in
Chennai recording for this video. He brings out the best in me as a performer
and a
songwriter,” she adds.

After making an impressive acting debut with the much acclaimed musical ‘Mamma
Mia’ (where
Rahman first noticed her), Karen went on to work with Lloyd Webber for the UK
musical ‘Bombay
Dreams’ which furthered to an American tour with him.

“Working with such great artists is like being blindfolded and walking on a
high tight rope.
You don’t know where you’re going but in the end the result is amazing,” says
Karen. Although
Karen spent most of her life abroad, she credits her musical sensibilities to
her Indian roots.
“I am originally from Shillong and I guess since Khasis are so musical at
heart, it definitely
forms a huge part of my musical influences.” She might primarily consider
herself a musician,
but what cannot be ignored is her ongoing achievement as an actor. Karen’s
latest acting stint
can be seen in the Steven Seagal action flick ‘Flight of Fury’.

“It was very adventurous — I got to play a US Air Force Army Lieutenant and
learn a lot of
military jargon,” she says laughing. Eventually what this multi-talented girl
is most looking
forward to is her debut album ‘Me vs. Me’ where she has again collaborated with
biggies like
Rob Wells, Damian Legassick, and the Bombay Dub Orchestra including Rahman of
course. “Through
this album I celebrate my roots as a Canadian-Asian and I wanted to incorporate
that element in
my sound. Also I have loads of family in India so I hope I do them proud,” she
signs off.
