I agree with your sentiments..

on the other hand consider the diversity he is able to produce..
water on one side
shivaji/boys on the other side..

what a contrast...

only very few music directors in the industry can handle such diverse
musical styles with perfection

Personally i was of the opinion that he should liberate himself from
the boundaries of cinema music..I would like to see himself go loose
on his experimentation without any boundaries..but at Stanford univ he
mentioned that doing music for film music directors brings different
flavors of his personality..he said it wud be boring if he brings his
own personality in every album...

that is so right...if you look pop music artists lack variety...they
seem to run out of steam after their first album..and sound repetitive..

whereas cinema music directors thrive longer...

we need both...rahman for the masses and rahman for the classes
and rahman for himself..

personally i would like to see more of the third
