The popular Chennai Box-Office is back on Sify.com after a break of two
months. CBO as it is popularly known is the most authentic yardstick for the
performance of any film in Chennai. The figures mentioned in the CBO are
sourced from the distributor or the theatre screening the film. Our ratings
are purely based on the box-office collections in Chennai city. CBO is back
when the Sivaji fever hits the screens. In Chennai, Sivaji became the first
film ever to release in 17 screens, and it opened big to 100 percent capacity.

According to 'Abirami' Ramanathan, who has released the film in city along
with GV films: "Sivaji, has taken the best ever opening since talkies came to
Chennai. 2,70,230 audience saw it during the first four days of its release in
17 screens and the film netted a whopping Rs 1.35 crore".
Added B.Udeep, CEO, Mayajaal Multiplex on ECR which falls in trade circles in
the Chengalpet area, but is patronized by Chennai city audience: "It is a
blockbuster at Mayajaal. In its opening weekend, the film has done 78 houseful
shows across six screens and collected approximately Rs 13.5 lakhs from 12200
audiences".
No other film could stand up to the Sivaji tsunami that hit the CBO! Jhoom
Barabar Jhoom, the week's other release was washed away along with Cheeni Kum,
Chennai 60028, Dubai Seenu, Pirates of the Caribbeans and other summer hits.
Sivaji rules the chart from one to five at the CBO. A rare feat which has not
happened before anywhere
