By Joginder Tuteja, May 26, 2008 - 10:46 IST Rank Last week Film Plusses
Minuses 1 1 Jannat There is no stopping Pritam as 'Jannat' continues to
announce it's supremacy. The music has shown an exponential escalation after
the release of the film (which in itself is doing great business). One
wonders whether Bhatts would think of anyone other than Pritam and/or Emraan
Hashmi for any new project of theirs from this point on! Best song of the
album, 'Door Na Jaa', doesn't find a place in the film's narrative 2
2 Race Even
though the wait for film's DVD is still on, 'Race' has it's moments in the
charts as the music continues to do exceedingly well. Now one waits to see
'Mujhpe To Jadoo' being revived in some way since it didn't find a place in
the film due to 'Sexy Lady' replacing it. None 3 New Jaane Tu Ya
Jaane Naa Perhaps
for the first time ever in this decade at least, A.R. Rahman has as many as
3 albums of his finding themselves in the Top-10 music charts. While 'Jodhaa
Akbar' has been there for 100 days, 'Jaane Tu Ya Jaane Naa' promises to go
even further due to some brilliant songs. This is THE album which is going
to be a serious contender for the place at the top. None. This one is
designed for urban youth and works perfectly well for the target audience.
4 4 Khuda Kay Liye The film is a success, it's music has been a bigger
success and now it's DVDs have arrived on the stands too! 'Khuda Kay Liye'
is an album which would stay on to do consistent business for a long time
since it comes with a timeless feel and doesn't get restricted by the film's
theme or an era. None 5 3 Tashan 'Tashan' is doing a constant flip-flop by
being in and out of the Top-3. This week it finds itself on the brink of
Top-5 and one suspects it would ever be able to up from this point on. The
film has more or less ended it's run too. It's a pity that the soundtrack
too would see a way downwards with not many really knowing that they missed
out on some cutting edge score. 6 New Ada This is what the name A.R. Rahman
spells for! Even though this small time film comes with an unknown banner
and new star cast, the music has started registering good sales just on the
basis of maestro's name on the credits and some excellent word of mouth
spreading through the world of blogs and forums. 'Jaane Tu Ya Jaane Naa' may
still hold the edge but 'Ada' too is showing good competition. 'Ada' is a
mix bag with half the songs being quite good while the remaining half being
average. Nothing is below the mark though. 7 5 Jodhaa Akbar Third Rahman
album in the charts, 'Jodhaa Akbar' finds itself out of Top-5, courtesy his
newer albums making their presence felt. What is commendable though is that
older albums like these are still fighting off all the challenge (or the
lack of it) which is coming their way from the likes of 'Mere Baap Pehle
Aap', 'De Taali', 'Woodstock Villa' and the rest! None 8 6 Taare
Zameen Par Shankar
Ehsaan Loy have seen an extended successful run of 'Taare Zameen Par'.
However, now they would be sincerely hoping that their newest soundtrack,
'Thoda Pyaar Thoda Magic', shows some magic at the music stands. The music
of this latest Yash Raj film has hit the stands and it has to be seen if it
manages to make a mark at the stands. None 9 7 U Me Aur Hum At the bottom
of the charts, 'u Me Aur Hum' is now at it's last leg. One expects a lot
from music of upcoming films like 'Love Story 2050' and 'Haal E Dil' and if
any of these do manage to create an impression, it may be good bye time for
'U Me Aur Hum'. In it's entire tenure in the charts, 'U Me Aur Hum' could
never scale the high that it deserved 10 - - - -
