New twist: Ramayana with a new flavour Sam Daniel
Friday, August,29 2008 (Chennai): Dancer and actress Shobana's Maya Ravan has wowed international audiences in 26 cities. Now Mumbai has got lucky. The city will witness it first in India. It's the tale of the Ramayana told through the eyes of Ravan with a fine blend of dance, music and drama. "It's more about the emotional aspect of Ramayana. We don't show Ram as a total brave warrior. We show him with a lot of feel, lot of it which is not normally portrayed and we are showing Ravan not as a lecherous man," Shobana said. A R Rehman and Ganesh Kumaresh have scored the music. Many prominent voices including Naseeruddin Shah, Suhasini Maniratnam and Revathy have done the narration. Acclaimed for rich costumes, over 40 Bharathnatyam dancers are working hard to replicate their overseas success in Mumbai. Certainly, Maya Ravan has generated quite a buzz among art lovers
