i've always found it a challenging task to transform a dramatic script
into a spellbinding musical, though i have this before with films like
Karz, Meri Jung, Khalnayak and Taal. When i came across an interesting
story of three brothers driven by sibling rivalry and a lady cellist
who plays the catalyst in bringing them together, I immediately called
up AR Rahman
"Now that most of the popular Hindi film songs are only about disco
and Punjabi folk music, does it make sense to make a musical like
Yuvvraaj ? .....I asked.
Rahman snapped back. " Why not? If you get out of your comfort zone...
go for experiments and innovations. . new music will happen!"
And it has happened!
Two maestros Rahman and Gulzar Saab, have spend endless days and
nights with me to create this album, an entertaining musical which
blends the discord of three brothers with the heavenly sound of family
togetherness. The story takes place in two of the most beautiful
European countries - Prague & Austria - that resound with nothing but
music.
