we did something similar in our album as well
all those who have bought our album can check out -Track 8 - Poochendugal
in this song the first interlude is made to sound like a synth rock guitar but
it is actually one of our band member (sindhu) singing - we used 3 track layers
and added 3 different plug-ins (1. phaser, 2.distortion processor and
3.flanger) and we set it at differnet levels with different pan areas
for all those who have not bought the album online - The CD will be out next
month

Almost the same technique has been used by ARR in Gopala Gopala (Kadhalan) and
rap in Ilamai remix (Varalaaru) but this is slightly hidden :-)
