Hi everyone, I tried posting a mail before, but was in a hurry and I'm not sure if i even managed to post it successfully. The thing is i think i can help some people. Without being condescending i believe that BOSE as a headphone is great compared to your creatives,i pod free-bees,and the likes. However,the general perception in audiophile circles is that BOSE is a overpriced toy.By the way, any noise cancellation is deemed highly distortive(because the artificial noise cancellation interferes with the original frequencies).In any case, the point is that for the price you pay for BOSE you are likely to find much better sounding headphones than the Goliath.Also BOSE is not the pinnacle of sound reproduction as the myth surrounding it around here suggests.Ask a good DJ and you will know.
To the more important point, This dossier is a good starting point for people looking at headphones. Less than 2000: buy Koss KSC75(better than QC3). For 5k to 12-15k try Grados SR series,medium priced Shures , Audio Technica wooden series etc. For more expensive ones under 25 k try HD595 600 650.Denons,bayer dynamics,ultimate ears or shure(for in ear). under 30K-50k you can get grados GS/HP series or ultrasone.Ofcourse you will enter STAX/Sony RS1 here and go on till 3 lakhs in STAX. But for the best headphones like the HDs or grados amplifiers are a must.All headphones worth more than 15 k are just as good as the Music you listen to.The best headphones needs the best amps and the best source to create the best music. For senheissers i would suggest you little dot or dark voice amplifiers.If money is not a constraint look at stuff like zana deux. In any case if you are looking at spending 15 k you would do better than to look at a mail like this. Try headfi.org. The singular site for audiophiles. For people looking to shred me to pieces i accept that i have very little knowledge in this area.But i've studied enough to know that regardless of the knowledge, one has one likely to get the same advice even from a pro.
