Rahman's music can be categorized under 5 broad categories:

1) Suffi/Devotional
2) Indian Classical/semi classical/raaga based
3) Western classical/symphony
4) Folk/Indian regional/world reigional
5) Hip hop/techno/electronica/jazz (western pop)

In yuvvraaj, he has combined numbers 2, 3, and 5 in the most unique
way more than any other MD has done in the past. This is what makes
the Yuvvraaj album so special. Many have combined 1 and 2 well, 2 and
3, 4 and 5. But, rarely has anyone combined 5 with any other number
other than 4 or at most 3, and that too in rudimentary ways.

Rahman has used these styles in different combinations in different
albums:

Jodha Akbar is largely 1 and 2 with small 3
Jaane Tu is largely 5 with some 3 and small 2
Ada is mostly 2, some 3, some 5, some 4

There is almost always a 2 and 3 in each of Rahman's albums these days
with heavy emphasis on 4 and 5 in his Tamil soundtracks of late. I
miss the 1s and 2s in his Tamil works!

Which combination is your favorite?

My favorite is 1,2,3!!!!!
