I was listening to a 40 song compilation of ARR songs from his period
films scores....Zubeidaa, Lagaan, 1947 Earth, Water, LOBS, Mangal
Pandey, Bose, Jodha Akbar, Guru, Kisna........some of his best
compositions are in these films. Outside of period scores, when do we
really get to hear ARR score semi-classical pieces with ethnic
percussion and instrumentation? Rarely. Use of tablas, dholaks,
ghungrus, sitar, sarangi, flute, shivamani's drums, naveen's
flute.....most notable in period film scores, at least lately.
