Top contenders for the Best Music Awards in 2008
December 10th, 2008
We have assembled the top contenders for the best music awards for the year
2008. The films that stand a strong chance are Rab Ne Bana Di Jodi, Bachna Ae
haseeno, Rock On, Fashion, Jaane Tu Ya Jaane Na and Jodha Akbar. This is our
list as per the popularity of the music of each and every film.
The music of Rab Ne Bana Di Jodi is the most awaited one of the year 2008.
Salim Suleiman are the music directors of the film and seem to have done a good
job. Even before the movie could release the music has taken off real well. The
song Haule Haule sung by Sukhwinder seems to be on the lips of everyone, be it
young or old. And the song Tujh mein rab dikhta hai is also following it in
popularity,it’s a song sung by Roop Kumar Rathod. The others are not that great
but overall a good attempt and the song Haule Haule itself makes the album
worth the money.
Then comes the hit music of Bachana Ae haseeeno and the music directors for
this film are Vishaal and Shekhar. The song Khuda Jaane overnight hit. The song
Ahista Ahista is a treat for Lucky Ali fans. The songs small town girl and jogi
maahi have a Punjabi style to it with the dhol beats.last but not the least
Bachna Ae Haseeno’ rocks too! They’ve incorporated the original Kishore parts
really well and Sumit Kumar (Kishore’s son) sings the rest of it. You can’t
compare him to the great Kishore but he’s done very well to keep up and doesn’t
let you down. This is song is throughly enjoyable. Khuda Jane and the title
track are the ones which might help this album to go ahead in the race. Vishaal
and Shekhar have once again proved they are a hit pair.
Rock on-complete rock song experience. Strong guitar riffs, energetic rhythm,
crisp drumming, simple tunes, Farhaan sounds great in songs likeSocha Hai and
Pichle Saat Dino Mein .Music directors Shankar Ehsaan and Loy have done a great
job. The song Ye Tumhari Meri Baatein’ is so soothing. The voice of the new
singer Dominique Cerejo has good presence and character. The other songs like
Rock On, Pichle Saat Dino Mein, Sindbad the Sailor and Zehreelay are all
typical rock songs. And finally the song Tum ho to a case of excellent
composition. Definitely a welcome change from the regular bhangra and disco.
Shankar Ehsaan and Loy have shown their versatility once again.
Fashion-the music of this film is given by Salim-Sulaiman. The song Mar Jaava
is an ever-cherishing melody that will keep you haunting over the times. The
husky voice of Shruthi pathak is mesmerizing. Then we have another soft number
Kuch khaas Hai which is sung by Mohit Chauhan and Neha Bhasin. A typical
romantic song with soft music. The songs Ashiyana and Fashion ka jalwa are
songs with foot tapping music with rhythmic beats. Overall an excellent effort
by Salim Suleiman the music seemed to have topped the charts every week.
Jaane Tu Ya Jaane na- The music director for this film is A.R.Rahman. The song
Kabhie Kabhie did really well,a funloving romantic song and enjoyable song. The
song pappu cant dance had also topped the charts. That was basically made for
listeners who enjoyed funny lyrics and funny songs. The other numbers like
jaane tu mera kya hai, tu boli and nazre milana though not outstanding still
managed to pull the crowd. But one of the best songs in this film was khin to
hogi wo, sung by Rashid and Vasundhara Das. A soft number very soothting to the
ears. Overall an excellent package of fast peppy and soft romantic numbers and
nevertheless when Rahman is around things just can’t go wrong.
Jodha Akbar-last but not the least another piece of art by the mucic maestro
A.R.Rahman. The music is magical, spectacular, bracing, pleasant and different
from the tunes and beats of the contemporary style of music. The tracks are
rustic, earthy and definitely pulsating. The track Azeem-O-Shaan Shahenshah is
a wild song with so many different instruments and singers together, one of
Rahman’s best. The romantic track Jashn-e-bahaara is enticing. Pure
unadulterated music. Then comes Khawaja Mere Khawja a fabulous qawaali based
song sung by Rahman himself. After praises for the emperor you are taken to the
world of two lovers with In Lamhon Ke Daaman Mein another soft and soothing
number. Finally the mind-blowing bhajan Manmohana is another soft track.
Overall every track of this film is a masterpiece in itself, and definitely a
very strong contender for the awards.
Even though 2008 was not a great year in terms of great music still we have
managed to anaylise the best compositions and the composers. From the entire
selection we think Jodhas Akbar stands the highest possibility of receiving the
awards because of A.R.Rahman’s outstanding performance. Followed by Fashion,
Rock on, Rab Ne, Bachna Ae Haseeno and then Jaane tu. But Kudos to all the
other as well for putting their best foot forward in the process.
