Nokia unveils touchscreen phone Our Bureau Chennai, Jan. 6 Mobile handset market leader Nokia on Tuesday launched its first touchscreen phone — XpressMusic 5800 — in India. Priced at Rs 22,000, the handset model comes preloaded with A.R. Rahman’s exclusive nine-track album – Connections. According to Mr T.S. Sridhar, Regional General Manager (South), Nokia India, the gadget is targeted primarily at music enthusiasts. The device, besides offering a variety of input methods including a virtual alpha-numeric keyboard and pen stylus, taking advantage of touch screen technology, also comes with a Media Bar, a handy drop down menu that provides direct access to music tracks, videos and photos. The ‘media bar’ will also offer a direct link to the Web browsing. The model, with 3.2” screen, a 3.2-mega pixel camera with Carl Zeiss lens, 8 GB memory that can store up to 6,000 tracks also has built-in surround sound stereo speakers and a graphic equalizer. To promote the model, Nokia came out with teaser ads and online campaigns weeks before the launch. However, Mr Sridhar refused to divulge its marketing plans. A.R. Rahman, who was also present on the occasion, said Connections is the first such exclusive album he has cut so far.
