Indian of the Year 2008: Vote for entertainer of the year

New Delhi: 2008 was a mixed bag for entertainment. While small films made big
bucks most of the big budget giants crashed at the box office. So did the
eight-year-old saas-bahu saga, giving way to fresh young faces and brighter
ideas.

But some stars shone brighter than the others and got nominated for our Indian
of the Year.

Aamir Khan: 2008 kicked off with Aamir receiving accolades for his directorial
debut Taare Zameen Par, which soon joined the race for the Oscars. But Aamir
made another killing at the box office with Jaane Tu Ya Jaane Na - this time as
producer! And then Aamir the actor flexed his muscles and eight-pack abs to
give Bollywood it's biggest money spinner Ghajini.

Akshay Kumar: The khiladi has played it right once again. Akshay Kumar debuted
on the small screen with his reality show Khatron ke Khiladi. Even as he
retained his hold over the silver screen with Singh Is Kinng that registered
record box-office opening collections. With news of a 70-crore one film deal in
the pipeline, it looks like this khiladi will play on.

A R Rahman: The Maestro from Madras gave us many more chart toppers in 2008
including soundtracks from Jodhaa Akbar, Jaane Tu…Ya Jaane Na and Ghajini. And
before the year ended, the music composer picked up a Golden Globe nomination
for his score in Danny Boyle's Slumdog Millionaire.

Avika Gaur: This newly-coronated queen of the small screen - is just 11 years
old, but she has ended the decade old monopoly of Saas-Bahu serials. Avika Gaur
as Anandi in Balika Vadhu has rewritten the rules of prime time television and
how.

Katrina Kaif: Hits like Race and Singh is Kinng ensured that Katrina's streak
of success in Bollywood continued. Katrina went on to add many more
endorsements to her kitty and reigned as the uncrowned queen of Bollywood this
year after being judged the most searched celebrity on Google.

Lalit Modi: This man transformed Indian cricket into one of the biggest
entertainers of the year. The Indian Premier League, the multi-million-dollar,
franchise-based domestic league, conceived and executed by Lalit Modi
successfully drew industrialists, business tycoons and film personalities.
