Porayar (TN), Feb 24 For tsunami-hit villages of remote Karaikal
region, A R Rahman bagging the Oscars was special as the
musician had provided them the much-needed healing touch with his
performance after the 2004 natural calamity.
As soon as the news of the Oscar award for Rahman spread, children and
youngsters in the villages gathered on streets and burst crackers and
people performed prayers in temples yesterday.

" Rahman made all the Indians proud. We were sure that he would win
Oscars. Our joy have no bounds. If we get a chance, we will try to
meet him once he returns back to Chennai and share our happiness,"said
Senthil of Kottucherrymedu.

Four years ago, in the aftermath of tsunami attack, Rahman provided a
healing touch to these people through his music. In a rare public
appearance in July 2005, Rahman came calling the tsunami-hit
Kottucherrymedu village near Karaikal and enthralled the tsunami
survivors with his music.

He spent nearly ten hours with the people. Thousands of tsunami
survivors from about 11 fishing hamlets gathered at Kottucherrymedu to
listen to his music.

Rahman had then said that he had come to the village on his own to
bring happiness to the troubled hearts through music.
