Well, even before watching the video i was under the prejudice that Kamal would have come with cryptic / egoistic praise for AR.. (im NO way a big fan of AR).. partly because even my mom said there were media reports that kamal has said something wrong about people going crazy after the Oscar win.

but i must say that he wasn't being any of that.. what he said was a fair assesment of the award. I have always felt that the oscars are not a Olympics of movie (Though Hollywood represents bulk of the movie industry its doesnt have representations from all over the world).. I would not be very impressed by an indian movie winning a 'best foreign movie' award.. There were signs of egoism in his speech, but if he is only human (and he is not AR Rahman). Obviously he is a Big IR fan, so he is not able to take it all in good spirit that AR beat every one else to the Oscar glory.

What's amazing about AR's achievement is that he could compete with the best in the legends and hollywood in their homeground and come out triumphant - it deserves all adulations!!

It was also nice to see Kamal come out in support of the movie - and say that showing discotheques and skylines does not represent india and u will have to show the slums if you are to reflect the real India. He said, 'We should not be angry with Danny boyle for showing the slums, We should be angry with ourselves that we have slums and do something about it' - Similar sentiment to what AR said.

The only question I had for Kamal is - when you are clear about what an oscar is? and that it represents only the western movie industry, why submit your movies for nominations?

Cheers,
Srini

kamal is agonized/thrilled/angry in his interview.. anyways, two songs for marmayogi has been completed and they deserve an oscar each, per kamal!

Kamal Haasan, the universal hero of Tamil cinema was in a strong contention for the Oscar race and thrived his best to win the coveted trophy. But, Rahman has raced ahead and a generous Kamal is glad that an Indian had achieved such heights on a global scale.

An exclusive press meet was organized by the actor to express his congratulations to AR Rahman for winning the Oscars and he also shared his views about the Oscar awards. He opines that it's a scale which measures the quality of Hollywood cinema and not world cinema.

Olympics is a competition conducted on a global scale but Oscars are for America alone and not to be considered to rate our movies.

He also said that he's proud that one of us from Tamil Nadu has gone to make a mark and make India proud.
