The unthinkable has happened. The highest grosser of 2009 so far isn't a
Shah Rukh starrer (BILLU) or an Akshay Kumar starrer (CHANDNI CHOWK TO
CHINA). It is an Abhishek Bachchan film - DELHI 6 - which now stands as the
biggest money spinner of the year so far. With the first quarter of 2009
coming to a close, there hasn't been a single mega box office success but
surprisingly it's the flops that have boasted of the highest collections of
the season so far.

So even as CHANDNI CHOWK TO CHINA, DELHI 6 and BILLU BARBER are all flops,
they still hold the record for being amongst the Top-5 revenue generating
films of 2009. The only other films that have done good business and have
been termed as successful are RAAZ - THE MYSTERY CONTINUES, DEV D and
SLUMDOG MILLIONAIRE. However, none of these films has been able to cross the
30 crores mark, something which CHANDNI CHOWK TO CHINA did early this year
and DELHI 6 has managed to do last week.

In fact DELHI 6 is managing a decent run for itself even as it has entered
its fifth week. The film has neared the 31 crore mark, hence pushing aside
the biggest money spinner hat that CHANDNI CHOWK TO CHINA was wearing till a
week earlier. The Akshay Kumar starrer, though a major disappointment at the
box office, had made a little over 30.5 crores and boasted of being the only
film with 30 crores in it's kitty in spite of being labeled as flop.

Not that DELHI 6 should consider a 31 crores total as a consolation
considering it is a flop nevertheless. Still, for Abhishek Bachchan, it is
still a smile worthy moment to see a film of his occupy a top slot when it
comes to box office performances of Bollywood films as 2009 moves into its
second quarter.
