Happy Birthday to Chithra IndiaGlitz [Monday, July 27, 2009]

Her voice is phenomena. Her songs simply give you soulful ecstasy. No wonder
she is rightly called the Nightingale of South India.

K. S. Chithra. Words won’t be enough to praise her singing talent. She has
followers from all over the country and young singers swear by her songs.

Chithra has a charm of her own. A unique voice. Her voice crossed her native
borders, Kerala and when on to capture other states. Besides Malayalam, she
has sung for different languages like Telugu, Tamil, Hindi, Kannada, Oriya,
Assamese and Bengali! Numerous movies, innumerable songs. Chithra has always
remained a music director’s favourite playback singer. She not only captured
maximum number of listeners but also holds maximum number of awards than any
female singer has ever achieved! Did you know that she is has earned six
National film awards? Besides that her trophy shelf has other prestigious
awards and accolades that were showered on her by different states in the
country.

15 awards from Kerala State Government, 7 awards from Andhra Pradesh State
Government, 4 awards from Tamil Nadu State Government and 3 awards from
Karnataka State Government and many more! And of course, she won the
Padmashree Award too! It is said that Chithra is the only playback singer to
be recognised by all the four state governments in South India for her
contributions.

‘Bombay’, ‘Roja’ and ‘Ashoka’ are few of her common movies with whom all
types of audience are familiar with. She has shared the mike with most of
the talented singers, young and old, in the country. At the same time
Chithra has worked with several well-known music directors. In blend with
music gurus A. R. Rahman and Illayaraja, Chithra has sung out many soulful
melodies, which have become close to heart for many.

Today our nightingale celebrates her birthday. May she grace the cinema and
music garden with more musical blooms. May success and good health be with
her.
