Do you want to Hasili Fisili,” asks a cheerful Karthik, post an interesting photoshoot in which the singer proves that he can be model material [image: Karthik]<javascript:openslideshownew('/slideshow/5018870.cms?imw=460','541','526')> <javascript:openslideshownew('/slideshow/5018870.cms?imw=460','541','526')> On a song: Karthik too.
The singer, who went around town asking Enakku Oru Girlfriend Venummada ... not long ago, is urging people to ‘hasili fisili’ these days in the superhit number from Aadhavan. So, what’s the real meaning of the phrase? “I really don’t know,” he says, “I was asked to sing it and I did my job. I think it’s a cute way to address your girl friend. Moreover, gibberish words like these add to the recall value. Quite catchy, isn’t it?,” he asks with a wink. The singer is quite kicked about the success of the song and just can’t stop raving about the chemistry between the trio — Harris Jayaraj, Suriya and himself. “I think the combination is quite lucky. Be it Oru Maalai ... in Ghajini, Anjala ... in Vaaranam Aayiram, Vizhi Moodi ... in Ayan or Hasili Fisili ... , the songs have worked magic for us. Hope, the charm continues,” he says with his trademark smile. The affable singer currently has his platter full with a number of interesting projects in hand. “I have sung Govinda Govinda ... in Aayirathil Oruvan and Thiru Thiru Vizhiyae ... in Thiru Thiru Thuru Thuru. I have signed a David Dhawan project in Hindi and a Kamal project in Malayalam. Apart from these, I have a few other notable Tamil, Hindi and Malayalam projects in my kitty,” he says. The singer is literally living out of suitcases these days shuttling between cities in connection with work. “It’s hectic but it’s my passion. I am not looking at it as a career. I am enjoying my stint as a singer,” says Karthik. Karthik is not one who will rest on his laurels. He tries to improve himself with every rendition and brings out the best in him every time he holds the mike. And the hard work has paid off for this singer. “Yes, I met Rahman sir a few months ago and he said that I have indeed come a long way from my Nenthukitten ... days. He said my voice had really improved and that it sounded cultured. It’s rare to get a compliment from a great like Rahman sir and my joy knew no bounds then,” recalls a thrilled Karthik. With most of the actors in the Tamil film industry taking to singing, does Karthik feel threatened? “I have never thought on those lines. It’s a healthy trend which will help singers perform better. Moreover, it’s good to multi-task, even though I may not be good at it,” he laughs. He might come from a non-musical background, but that doesn’t deter this passionate singer from exploring the nuances of music. “Every song is a challenge which you have to crack. I go with a blank mind inside the studio and put my heart and soul into every song of mine.” No wonder, his songs linger in the minds of people. “I think I am lucky to have been introduced by AR Rahman himself, followed by projects with the industry’s best composers, including maestro Ilayaraja. With a great family to support me and good friends, what more could I ask for?” winds up the cheerful singer. http://timesofindia.indiatimes.com/entertainment/regional/news-interviews/Karthik-unplugged/articleshow/5018730.cms -- regards, Vithur
