BANGALORE: Having to wait for 3,500 jingles before making a break in
Bollywood might seem like a daunting task, especially for an artiste who
took to singing at the age of two. But when he clarifies, “Actually, I
didn’t see Bollywood coming,” it strikes you that there are people who see
fortuity knocking at the door.

*Krishnakumar Kunnath, aka KK amiably brought out his instinctive smile, as*

*he went on to add, “It so happened that one day, I got a call from Shekhar
Kapur’s office and I was asked to sing for an AR Rahman song. I am indeed
fortunate.”*

The singer who was gearing up before the Seagram’s Imperial Blue show in the

city looked only happy to share his musical exploits with the media as he
reassured the people of a good show and even better times from the music
fraternity at large. “But I usually don’t record more than one song a day.
I’m a laid back guy,” he grinned adding, “I’ve had the good fortune of music
directors coming up to me with really good songs. And yes, I enjoy singing
Kannada songs.”

The Kerala-born, Delhibred singer so far has sung over 50 song in Kannada,
Telugu and Tamil, apart from the 250 songs in Hindi.

“My wife is my rock of Gibraltar. When we moved from Delhi to Mumbai, it
was a drastic change. And also when we decided to get married, people told
me that I had to settle down first. But I believe it’s better to marry and
then settle down because when you are settling down emotional support is
what keeps you going,” pointed out the singer. And moving to Mumbai only
came as a blessing for the man who struck a deal with Sony and released his
first album, Pal in 1999 and more recently, his second venture Hamsafar.

“My son has sung a track in that album. He’s 15 and already he’s a great

guitar player. When I was that age, I couldn’t do that,” says a proud
father.

But the boy who grew up saying he would be a doctor went on to study B Com

and then work as marketing executive “Yes. As a kid, I wanted to be a
doctor. I thought it was cool to treat patients. But then I realised that it
needs a lot of effort to be a doctor. And I was an average student,” he
narrated. “Reality dawns on you at some point in life. It did for me. That’s
when I realised that music is my way,” he signed off.
