ARInside does in fact show details at the field level ...BUT... there is an issue, which sometimes prevents the documentation process to be finished. That's why some from our list report that it does not I suppose. There is also some bug that the server sometimes crashes ( check your server error log :-). Also ARSDoc (in rare cases) sometimes does not display all workflow attached to a field.

No doubt about it ... both programs are great and both are a superb community contribution ( and for free! ) and I'm sure that both helped a large part of our community a long way. I'm sure quite some would have paid for it as well.

Yes, both can be used against v6.3, but I would say that especially ARSInside would have been in need of some little additional love and care, to actually be considered (very) stable (when being lucky, it runs fine at your place though without an issue :-).

Like someone stated, that might be a nice chance for someone from the list to make a bug or two. I think that would be well worth the money to spend (I have not yet seen the documenation feature from the Remedy Developer tools and what Les said. From what I remember from testing it some while ago, it plain and simply was not what I was looking for, to say it that way).

I have to print Carey's approach to try understanding some of it :-) ...yes, I think Remedy's database docu feature is useful to some degree, when spending some time on interfacing it nicely. In any case, I think that is a nice topic for tools development with a current arising need, at least in my opinion.

Groom ->
"I use ARSDoc against my v6.3 servers with no problems. What "loss" are you talking about?"

Congrats, you are lucky then at it seems :-) ...the main "loss" though is that both programs are not being supported anymore ( just think about v7 ), so nice if it is currently working. But what if you really rely on something and you are running into an issue ? ...this is more of a general question but I think that is another topic, pro and cons about supported against unsupported applications, freeware and commercial and so on (you should not rely on freeware, to begin with).

I personally think that this documenation feature is very important, especially when being confronted with large unknown applications and having to develop/maintain those lots. Therefore talking about it, or possible replacements and future approaches (either free or commercial) is an eligible topic in my opinion.

Best greetings from Germany, Robert
