I'm glad you were able to fix this
issue.
For parsing
strings, I put a bit more faith in Oracle's ability to get it done accurately and quickly, than I put in Remedy's. By using the SQL way of doing it, you're
actually making the database responsibly for
much of the work, rather than ARServer itself. Once the database has parsed the
data, ARServer has only
to set a field in a Filter or
Escalation, or pass it along to the client to set the field in an Active
Link. It's a kind
of cheating, but the resulting data is the same on any client the end user may be connecting
from.
I agree with you wholeheartedly regarding the client's
behavior. All three clients have some great features which
the one or both of the others do not. The cosmetic ones are almost always
the ones the users end up
pointing out. As a result,
we end up having to write workflow to the lowest common
denominator which can be very
frustrating.
Please submit this
to BMC as a bug. Hopefully this
will be something that is taken care of in the next patch, rather than the
next release.

One thing to remember is if you do an SQL set fields from any client it will have to call the server to get the data and in a distributed environemnt the time from the User's PC (no matter what client) back to the server is usually the slowest. For that reason I prefer to do as much of my processing as I can in Filters.
