David,

I think I speak for everyone when I say how much we appreciate your good corporate citizenship!  I know from the House's standpoint, the information that you've provided on the planned ITSM 7.0.01 and the CMDB 2.0.01 releases, in addition to the details on integrating CMDB 2.0.01 with ITSM 6.0, has been most helpful.

One last request (for me at least)...I was wondering if you could provide any details, non-legally binding of course, on what changes one may see between 7.0.00 and 7.0.01?  Will it just be bug fixes or are there new features being released as well?

Also, since this is the first I'm hearing about an ITSM 7.0.02 release planned for December and seeing how it will be following so closely on the heels of 7.0.01, is it safe to assume that the only change is the inclusion of the CMDB 2.0.01 that you mentioned below?  Or can we expect additional fixes/features included in 7.0.02 that don't make the 7.0.01 release?

Thanks again and have a great weekend!

Hi,

ITSM 7.0.01 applications are expected be webGA'ed by end of next week and physically available in the next 2 weeks.  Note that ITSM 7.0.01 does not include CMDB 2.0.01 - ITSM 7.0.01 will contain CMDB 2.0.00 just as ITSM 7.0.00 did.  This is simply due to the timing of the two releases - it was important to release ITSM 7.0.01 without waiting for, or making it dependent on, the release of CMDB 2.0.01.  Thus the two release processes were separately initiated.

ITSM 7.0.02 applications are tentatively scheduled to be available in early December.  ITSM 7.0.02 will include CMDB 2.0.01.

Due note that any statements made on this forum do not constitute a legal or binding statement of any kind.  I'm just trying to be a good corporate citizen by answering the questions asked to the best of my ability.  If you need something in writing or a really official statement, you'll have to go through proper channels. ;-)

Thanks,

Hi David,

Thanks for taking the time to answer all of our questions about CMDB 2.0.01...it's been very helpful.  One last question, does your current expectation that CMDB 2.0.01 will be "Web Generally Available" on Upgrade Central by end of next week also include the release of the other related ITSM 7.0.01 applications (i.e. Service Desk 7.0.01, Change Management 7.0.01, etc)?

Thanks again!

Correct.  The white paper would expect a customer to be upgrading from CMDB 1.1 to CMDB 2.0.01 and provide information on how to do so.

Hmmm...seems as though I may have assumed something that may not be true.  A clarification question, if you please.

The promised white paper on integrating CMDB with ITSM 6.0 has always been advertised as being predicated on the CMDB 2.0.1 release, not specifically as part of that release.  Can you say whether it is planned that the white paper itself will or will not be part of the 2.0.1 release?  If it is not, can you speculate on the time window in which we can expect it?

ITSM 6.0 supported on CMDB 2.0 was informally announced at BMC UserWorld
(if not before).  The white paper that will announce it officially and
describe how to do it is still under development.  Such compatibility or
support should apply to 2.0.x (i.e. it would apply to CMDB 2.0.01).

Hi David,

Is there any official (as official as you can be pre-release) about CMDB
2.0.01 compatibility with version 6 of Asset, Help Desk and Change
Management? I just did a fresh install for what will be production
environment but I may dump it and wait for CMDB 2.0.01 if there is a
light at the end of the tunnel.

Thanks,
Jason

Speaking with folks internally, the current expectations are that CMDB
2.0.01 will be available electronically (i.e. what we call "Web
Generally
Available") on Upgrade Central by end of next week.  This is based on a
whole bunch of variables and may change, but that's the approximate
answer right now.

As I'm keen to say, I can give you the exact date it ships the day after
it ships. ;-)

I heard it was supposed to be released early November, but no solid
date.

Additionally, if you have the BMC Discovery Suite or plan on
implementing it, for some reason it needs CMDB 2.0.1.

** Still haven't heard anything solid - can David or anyone else tell us
an approximate/planned/soft release date for 2.0.1?  Not trying to push,
but knowing when we can expect it will help us with some release
planning.
