Do you know if the DSL is an industry provided standard - that could
be relied upon to be cross vendor? And if so - how would a custom
Remedy CMDB get the list and update service?

This is an ITIL driven concept. BMC will be
providing this information as a bi-monthly download
to update your files. The concept is to use this as
a standard to get the name for any software you are
using both commercially available such as word or is
it MS word or is it Microsoft Word, or that you have
created and distributed within your organization.
ITIL also has the the DHS for hardware.
