Hi John, We're also going from a home built 812 system to 91x. We have run into a few hiccups and existing minor corruption issues that were only found when we tried to move.

The 'no active links/filters' thing you are talking about was a potential future that got moved off into Innovation Suite and is not the future of Remedy at this point. The major feature with 9.x as far as objects are 'relationships'....beyond that are plenty of new features, but not object types...and no types removed.
