licenses) (UNCLASSIFIED)

Mr. Black,

I'm working on a checklist to do as "Clean" an install as possible with
=
all our licensed products. I am working on this list right now and would
=
like to post it here for feedback/additional insights. I'm trying to get
=
additional information/insights from BMC Support (continuous), but never
=
seem to get anything beyond what I discover myself through trial and =
error or documentation.

We have a Production environment, but it was built before I arrived and
=
everything is out of sync(but working), but almost current 7.0X.x(both =
ARS & ITSM). So I'm taking the opportunity to rebuild everything and =
then migrate the live data from Incident, Problem and Change management
=
into a new Production server I can trust (to whatever degree that is =
possible).

Some burning questions:
1. Can/should SLM be installed before or after the other ITSM products?
=
(documentation refers to installing before will allow apps to integrate
=
themselves vs running the integration tool separately).
2. Has anyone spent time analyzing the importance of the error message =
in the arxref.log file? On our servers including one we just built with
=
a "Clean" 7.0.1p3 ARS server with ITSM 7.0.2p5 apps, there are thousands
=
of errors regarding CMDB and missing field references as well as =
Business Time, etc.
3. What is the lastest version of ITSM 7.0x products you should install
=
before installing the 7.0.2p5 patch. BMC support says cumulative, but of
=
course it is not. The patch is a windows only based installer, we need =
the best Linux or Solaris base install before applying the 7.0.2p5 =
patch. (best I can determine is 7.0.2)
4. Why is Remedy Developer Plus listed everywhere on BMC Remedy's =
website as 6.0? You have to devine the latest version from the "Patches"
=
section 6.3p1492.(rhetorical question - as are all questions to BMC =
support become). (similar to your request for "What does 7.0.2p5 =
actually install")
5. Lots more to come with install checklist.

I hope others with similar environments will be able to benefit from a =
tested install checklist. Will post shortly. Look forward to feedback.

Best Regards,
Scott.

licenses) (UNCLASSIFIED)

Scott,

Well.. there is "clean" and there is "clean"....

If you mean that the host is a entierly new host that does not have an =
existing ARS server license key/file then when you install the new
v7.1 server it has no file to "read" so it would be unlicensed. (And =
operating in a demo mode)

You would likely need to do a purge to move an existing key or buy a new
=
key for the new server.

Or...

If you mean that you uninstalled/deleted/turned off an existing ARS =
server on an existing host and installed the v7.1 server into a new =
directory on the existing server then there might be an existing license
=
key/file for the install to read and it would auto "convert"
the key into the DB where the v7.1 server keeps those things now.

And as far as the ITSM app license go.... you can configure the server =
to think you have purchased the products already and the installers will
=
run against that server. No application keys from BMC are technically =
required for the installers to run or the application to function. =
However, you are still obligated by the license agreement to BUY the =
products. So you should not add more licenses than you have purchased.

But you could tell the server that you have Migrator when you have not =
purchased it... then later go pay BMC for it too.
