Can you help me to figure out what is erong in the registry path because
I get the error:

Invalid root in registry key "".

I am using

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\App
Paths\excel.exe\Path

You could try an OLE action using the Windows Script Host Shell Object
to do a RegRead on the following key:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\App
Paths\excel.exe
