In Crystal, check File --> options --> Fields --> Date --> Date Tab and see what's specified.

What date format do you have set in Windows (Control Panel >> Regional and Language Options)? I believe the client will use these settings by default. You should be able to set a different date format for the client under Tools >> Options >> Locale.
