If your on 7x (some also in 6x) these settings in ar.conf may give you
some imrovments:

Read-Only-Tran-Off:
NextID-Block-Size:
Oracle-Cursor-Sharing:
Oracle-Bulk-Fetch-Count:
Oracle-Clob-Storage-In-Row:
