Since you mentioned the preference server, these are the first two places I would look.
1) From User, check "tools\options\display" to be sure they have not changed the font for a field or two. (I have had users do this). 2) From the form AR System User Preference, check that the user does not values on the display tab or if you are using values on this page, that they have the same values as everyone else. Twice, I have ended up with values in those normally blank fields (blank for us, anyway).
